Visiting Umatac, where Ferdinand Magellan anchored his small 3-ship
fleet on March 6, 1521 and checking out Ft. Soledad which overlooks
Umatac Bay, one of several Spanish Era forts on the island that still
stands. The fort was completed in 1810 and was used as a signal
tower and a security post to help protect Spanish trade in the area
from pirates. A picture of Bessie, the Carabao who's owner tells us
is 30 years old.
