Lattice of Coincidence
You see, in Repo Man, the concept of Lattice of Coincidence is
given. An example is that you might be thinking of a plate of
shrimp when suddenly someone else says “plate” or “shrimp”
or “plate of shrimp.”
I live under the Lattice of Coincidence. I have taken the
unusual-but-compelling step to document the coincidences.
Here is yet another true-life example.
Yesterday, we were discussing what costumes the kids should
wear for Halloween and I suggested that Jack be Peter Tork
from the Monkees. Not thirty minutes later, I was watching
Paula Zahn on CNN, a show I never watch, and they had a
story about how a new radio station with DJ-less personalities
and pre-programmed music was taking over some classic rock
formats in New York (WCBS) and Los Angeles (KLOS). The
new station is called: “JACK”
Ok, so I told Jack to come and see this story about his name-
sake personality, when they flash a picture of the Monkees,
which includes of course, Peter Tork! The reason they showed
the Monkees photo was to introduce Mickey Dolenz, a Monkee
and one of the DJs who lost his job due to the format switch to
JACK.
But not to be outdone, another Monkees and mate in the photo
is Michael Nesmith, who was the Executive Producer of . . . . . .
Repo Man.
So my wife, whom I have explained the Lattice to and
convinced her of its powers years ago, upon hearing this
revelation said that this only happens to “you” meaning me, of
course and that it never happens to her. And then she revealed
to me how…
A few weeks ago I was mentioning to her that something should
be “pasted”, which sounded odd to her because “normal” people
would say “glued” and then one night on the WB’s Gilmore Girls,
the femme fatale Rory told Logan "stop eating the paste special"
when she confronted him about why he hadn't asked her out.
While this isn’t the trifecta of the JACK/TORK/NESMITH story,
it is interesting that she was holding back on the revelation until
my story came out. Hmmmm….
